Colorado Receives Tobacco Payment of $86.4 Million

DENVER - Attorney General John W. Suthers announced today that the State of Colorado has received a tobacco litigation installment settlement payment of $86.4 million.

The payment of $86,411,134.93 was transferred from Colorado's escrow account to the Colorado State Treasurer's office. Including this payment, Colorado has received approximately $544,453,102 in payments from the tobacco litigation settlement, in addition to litigation costs.

The next payment is due April 2006.

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today announced the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center has been awarded $285,097 – Colorado’s portion of the Mylan Antitrust Litigation residual funds to support the Population-Based Palliative Care Research Network, or “PoPCRN.”

Attorney General John Suthers Obtains Indictment in String of Burglaries along Highway 285 corridor and Cherry Hills Village

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today announced that the Colorado Grand Jury has returned a forty-nine count indictment against Denver residents, Sidney Cooley, 24; and Frances McIntosh, 23.

“This is a great example of cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies and the AG’s office,” said Attorney General Suthers. “We’re pleased to have obtained an indictment in this series of burglaries.”

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today announced that criminal charges have been filed against former Littleton resident, John Mark Godard, in connection with an alleged scam, involving soliciting investors to finance non-existent radio equipment.

“Colorado's investors can be assured that we are working hard to combat securities fraud,” said Suthers. “This arrest sends a message to any perpetrator or white collar criminal that they should think twice before preying on unsuspecting investors.”

Attorney General John Suthers Announces Sentencing in 13-year-old Estes Park Murder

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today announced that a Larimer County murder fugitive, Manuel Enrique Muela-Luna, was sentenced to 27 years and 6 months in a Mexican federal prison for the murder of 18 year-old Luis Armendariz in 1992.

Muela-Luna shot Armendariz, burning his body beyond recognition, near Estes Park after he learned that Armendariz intended to move in with his pregnant girlfriend. According to investigators, Muela-Luna had sexually abused Armendariz in previous years and was enraged over Armendariz’s intent to marry.
