The settlement follows the Attorney General’s filing of a 48-page formal complaint alleging Dr. Crute’s substandard care of 17 patients.

"This settlement will prevent Dr. Crute from providing substandard care to any more Coloradans," said Attorney General Suthers. "It also eliminates the need for a lengthy and costly hearing at taxpayer expense." The case had been set for a 17-day hearing, beginning August 26, 2005.

In the settlement, Dr. Crute admits she provided substandard care in four cases. According to the disciplinary sanctions provided in the settlement, Dr. Crute’s license will be placed on inactive status effective September 1, 2005. Until that time, she will remain under the terms of an interim stipulation agreement requiring another neurosurgeon approved by the Board to monitor all of her surgical procedures. She cannot be reinstated in Colorado without the Board’s consent and her admissions in this case can be considered in reviewing any reinstatement application.

The settlement will be reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank and the Federation of State Medical Boards, which provide information to other states’ medical licensing boards. Dr. Crute is not currently licensed to practice medicine in any other state.
