DENVER - Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has joined 49 other states in concluding a consumer protection investigation against Ameriquest Mortgage Company. In reaching a settlement with Colorado and the other states, Ameriquest, the nation’s largest sub-prime lender, has agreed to pay $295 million in restitution to consumers and to make sweeping reforms to its lending practices.

DENVER - Attorney General John Suthers and The Century Council today brought a life-saving lesson about the dangers of drunk driving and underage drinking to students at John F. Kennedy High School. Brandon Silveria and his father Tony spoke to students about the importance of “making the right choice” about alcohol – and if students are under the age of 21, that the only responsible decision is not to drink. Brandon is a young man who was involved in an alcohol-related crash at age 17 just before his high school prom.
Denver Metro Auto Theft Team Busts Car Theft Ring -- 01/20/2006
DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers and the Denver Metro Auto Theft Team (DMATT) announced the end of the first phase of an on-going investigation into an auto theft ring operating throughout the Denver Metro area, which has resulted in six indictments. Commerce City Police Department officers identified the auto theft ring in February 2005, and were assisted in the investigation by members of DMATT.
Attorney General John Suthers Warns Consumers About Scam To Obtain Bank Account Information -- 01/11/2006
DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today alerted consumers to a recent scam involving telemarketers claiming to be from the “Colorado Department of Health” and offering “vouchers for up to $1,000 in free medical services.”
“There is no such voucher program being offered through the Health Department,” warned Suthers. “These calls are simply an attempt to fraudulently obtain consumers' checking account information in order to commit theft.”
