Attorney General Suthers To File Petition For Reconsideration Of Supreme Court’s Rejection Of Initiative #55

DENVER –Attorney General John Suthers announced today that he will ask the Colorado Supreme Court to reconsider its’ decision yesterday denying Initiative #55, aimed at services provided to illegal immigrants, a place on the November ballot:

“In light of the Supreme Court’s prior decisions regarding the single subject requirement and the simplicity of the proposed measure, we were very surprised by the Court’s decision. We were also troubled that the Court chose to rely upon arguments made for the first time in the opponent’s reply brief, a point at which new arguments are not typically considered.”

The Attorney General’s Office has fourteen days to file their motion to reconsider.
