Attorney General Reclaims $130,000 In Charitable Fraud Cases -- 09/05/2007
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today announced that his office has reached out-of-court settlement agreements in a trio of charitable fraud cases. Settlements were struck with Colorado Children’s Assistance Center and its founder and director, David Michael St. John; Front Range Charitable Services and its president, Colleen Gardenour Holmes; Veterans for the Homeless, Inc. and its officers, Jay Wyss and Rhett Cline; and Hernando Hennings, who worked for two of the charities as a paid solicitor.
Colorado Attorney General Gains Consumer Restitution In Settlement With Uzed.Com -- 08/27/2007
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers has reached an out-of-court settlement agreement with Broomfield-based Uzed Enterprises and company president Steven Bonneau. The company operated the Uzed.com website, soliciting and accepting consumers’ used CDs, DVDs, video games, and consumer electronics, such as cell phones, in exchange for an advertised payment. Uzed then resold the goods to media retailers for a profit.

Copper Thefts Net 14-Year Sentence -- 08/15/2007
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today announced that Timothy Allan Nolan (DOB 8/15/69) has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison for his role in a series of copper thefts. The sentence was handed down by Adams County District Court Chief Judge Harlan R. Bockman after Nolan pled guilty to violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act.
Attorney General Suthers Releases Opinion On In-State Tuition For Citizen Children Of Illegal Immigrants -- 08/14/2007
DENVER – In response to a question posed by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today released a formal opinion on whether children who are legal citizens of the United States can receive in-state tuition from state colleges and universities in Colorado, even if their parents are in the country illegally.
Attorney General Suthers Announces Twelve-Count Complaint Against Reverend Acen Phillips -- 08/07/2007
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers announced today that his office has filed a twelve-count felony complaint against Reverend Acen L. Phillips (DOB 12/12/1951) in Arapahoe County District Court. The felony charges include seven counts of theft and five counts of forgery related to fraudulently obtaining life insurance proceeds from AIG Life Insurance Company. If convicted on all counts, Phillips could face a maximum prison term of 81 years and up to $5 million in fines.

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers announced today that 11,575 Colorado consumers are eligible for $8.3 million in restitution from Ameriquest Mortgage Company – the nation’s largest sub-prime lender – and its affiliates as part of a $325 million national settlement of a predatory lending lawsuit against the company.
Attorney General Suthers Files Consumer Protection Lawsuit To Stop Alleged Auto Repair Scam -- 06/18/2007
DENVER – The office of Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today filed suit against a nationwide engine repair company and its local franchise located in Commerce City. The complaint alleges that Dallas, Texas-based American Engine Installation (http://www.engineinstallation.com/) consistently charged in excess of the estimates it provided to consumers. All told, the Attorney General’s Office received more than 60 complaints about American Engine over the past four years.
