Attorney General Suthers Announces Securities Fraud Indictment -- 02/20/2007

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced the indictment of Robert O. Bryant (DOB 10/7/1958) on 49 counts of securities fraud and one count of theft. Each of the counts is a class 3 felony, punishable by up to 12 years in prison and $750,000 in fines.

“Individuals who commit securities fraud prey upon the trust and good faith of Coloradans,” said Attorney General Suthers. “Cases like this demonstrate that fraudulent activity will not go unnoticed, and responsible parties will be held accountable.”

Attorney General Files Suit On Behalf Of CDPHE To Collect Penalties From Hazardous Waste Violators -- 02/19/2007

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that the Department of Law has filed three separate lawsuits in state district court on behalf of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). The lawsuits seek overdue fines assessed against Robert Lewis, operator of The Cleaners in Boulder; Clean Parts, Inc. in Commerce City; and Compass Industrial Coatings, Inc., located in Colorado Springs.

Attorney General Suthers Lauds Unanimous Committee Vote In Favor Of Bill To Crack Down On Mortgage Fraud -- 02/13/2007

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today praised legislative members of the senate’s Business, Labor, and Technology Committee for a unanimous, 8-0 vote to send SB-085 to the senate floor.

“Just as homeownership is the essence of the American Dream, foreclosure has become an American nightmare,” commented Suthers while testifying in favor of the legislation. “I’m glad to see Senate Bill 85 affirmed in committee, and look forward to seeing the bill make its way toward the Governor’s desk.”

Attorney General Suthers Announces Copper Theft Indictments By Statewide Grand Jury -- 02/08/2007

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today announced that the Colorado Statewide Grand Jury has indicted five people allegedly connected with a series of copper thefts. According to the indictment, the defendants burglarized five different commercial properties in Boulder and Adams counties between November 2004 and August 2006.

Attorney General Suthers Comments On Party-Line Vote Against Sex Offender Registration Bill -- 02/07/2007

DENVER – Attorney General John Suthers today expressed disappointment following a party-line vote of 6-5 against House Bill 1127, which would have required sex offenders to register their online identities. All six Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee voted against the bill.

“All of law enforcement and the victim advocate community favored this bill. The additional burden on sex offenders would be far outweighed by the additional protection to children on the internet,” commented Suthers. “If politics played a role in this vote, I think that’s unconscionable.”

Attorney General Suthers Announces Auto Theft Ring Indictments -- 01/25/2007

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, in conjunction with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, today announced the indictment and arrest of eight individuals resulting from a year-long grand jury investigation. The arrested individuals are alleged to have been involved in an auto theft ring believed to be responsible for nearly 350 stolen automobiles.
