Suthers Lauds Decision In School Finance Case -- 01/24/2008

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers applauded a decision released today by the Colorado Court of Appeals in the case of Lobato, et al. v. State of Colorado. The Court dismissed the plaintiffs’ appeal, which claimed the State fails to provide adequate funding to public schools.

“The judges have rightly held that the question of school funding is one for Colorado’s citizens and their elected representatives, not for the courts,” commented Attorney General Suthers. “This decision is a major victory for representative government in Colorado.”

Attorney General Suthers To Host U.S. Attorney General’s Executive Working Group -- 01/16/2008

DENVER) – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers this Friday will host a group of state Attorneys General, U.S. Attorneys, and District Attorneys from across the United States. The dignitaries are members of United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey’s Executive Working Group on Prosecutorial Relations, which meets four times each year to discuss criminal justice issues. Friday’s meeting at the Colorado Department of Law will mark the first time in the group’s 28-year history that it has met outside of Washington, D.C.

Attorney General Suthers Announces Agreement With MySpace -- 01/14/2008

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today announced that MySpace has voluntarily agreed to take several significant steps to better protect children on its web site, including the development of age- and identity-verification technology. The agreement was struck between the social networking site and the Attorneys General of 48 states after nearly two years of negotiation.

Attorney General Suthers Announces Securities Fraud Conviction -- 01/11/2008

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today announced the conviction of Douglas Alan Scott (DOB 11/16/59), of Colorado Springs, for his role in an investment scam involving more than 400 Colorado investors and more than $12 million in misappropriated funds. Scott was convicted by a Colorado Springs jury after three-and-a-half hours of deliberation on felony counts of securities fraud and theft. He faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison.

Attorney General Suthers Announces Conviction In PERA Scam -- 01/08/2008

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today announced the conviction of 30-year-old Gordon Robert Moore, of Longmont, for his role in an investment scam involving 141 public school teachers in Colorado. Moore pled guilty to felony theft, felony computer crime, and felony securities fraud.

Attorney General Suthers Announces Major Drug Ring Bust -- 01/02/2008

DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers and First Judicial District Attorney Scott Storey today announced a statewide grand jury indictment of 29 individuals – including several suspected illegal aliens – for transporting and selling cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and other drugs. The defendants have been indicted on 86-counts spread over two indictments, including charges of Racketeering in Violation of Colorado’s Organized Crime Control Act, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, and Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
