DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that two appliance thieves have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a string of Metro-area burglaries. Julio Cesar Reyes-Ramos will spend the next 12 years in state prison after today’s sentencing, while Valentin Aguilar Miramontes was given a four year prison term on September 18. Each of the men pled guilty to a variety of felony counts in early August after a months-long investigation dubbed Operation Freezer Burn.

Judge Levies Maximum Sentence In Hedge Fund Scheme -- 09/05/2008
COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that Hamilton Alan Bird (DOB 8/14/63) has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for his role as ringleader of a Colorado Springs hedge fund scheme that defrauded hundreds of victims out of approximately $7.5 million. Bird was indicted by a statewide grand jury in May of 2006 on three counts of securities fraud and five counts of theft. Bird pled guilty to a count of each on March 14 of this year.

DENVER - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers and Governor Bill Ritter today announced the settlement of the State's claim for natural resource damages at the California Gulch Superfund site. The settlement includes $20.5 million in Natural Resource Damages, the second largest sum in Colorado history. The agreement follows closely on the heels of the $35 million settlement for damages at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, and resolves the last of seven natural resource damage lawsuits brought by the State in 1983.

The State has reached agreements in principle with both Shell Oil Company and the United States Army that will result in over $35 million in acquisition, enhancement, and restoration of natural resources in and around the northeast metro area Arsenal site.
