DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that settlements have been reached with Dallas-based American Engine Installations and its Colorado franchises in Commerce City (located at 4850 Olive Street) and Colorado Springs (3455 Astrozon Court). The Attorney General filed a Consumer Protection Act lawsuit against AEI in June of last year, alleging that AEI and its franchises low-balled engine repair estimates, only to raise the estimate an average of 60 percent after consumers had paid an $800 deposit and after their cars were dismantled.

Attorney General’s Office Releases Annual Lending Data -- 11/03/2008
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today issued several reports on the state’s high-cost consumer lending activity in 2007. The reports include only lenders supervised by the Attorney General’s Office, and do not include data on most mortgages. They show the effect of payment plan requirements for some payday loans, continued high levels of high-interest payday and small installment lending, debt dependency, and significant decreases in mortgage-related credit.
Attorney General Praises Decision In Cash Funds Case -- 11/03/2008

Attorney General’s Office Defends State Charter Schools -- 10/31/2008
DENVER – Colorado Solicitor General Dan Domenico today offered the State’s defense of its charter schools in the case Boulder Valley School District v. Colorado State Board of Education. The case was argued in the Colorado Court of Appeals.
The case centers on Boulder Valley’s claim that the General Assembly does not have Constitutional authority to create and fund charter schools that are not controlled by local school boards.

Operation Clean Sweep Targets Credit Repair Companies -- 10/23/2008
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced his office’s participation in Operation Clean Sweep, a joint effort with the Federal Trade Commission and 22 other states to root out unlawful credit repair practices in 33 businesses nationwide. As part of the operation, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office has entered into settlement agreements with two Colorado credit service organizations, and has ongoing investigations into numerous others.
Paramedic Impersonator Charged -- 10/22/2008
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has announced that charges were filed earlier today against Todd Teel, age 40, stemming from his employment with American Medical Response of Denver. The State’s complaint alleges that Teel provided AMR with a falsified certificate attesting to his status as a paramedic, and then operated in AMR ambulances as a paramedic between June 2006 and December 2007.
Colorado Attorney General Sues To Block Swift Merger -- 10/20/2008
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers today joined the United States Department of Justice and the attorneys general of 12 other states in a lawsuit aimed at preventing JBS Beef, SA, from acquiring National Beef Packing Company. If completed, the deal would give JBS – which is already the world’s largest beef processor – one-third of the U.S. fed-cattle-processing market, making it the largest beef processor in the Unites States (it is currently third-largest).
Appliance Thieves Receive Prison Sentences -- 10/02/2008
DENVER – Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that two appliance thieves have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a string of Metro-area burglaries. Julio Cesar Reyes-Ramos will spend the next 12 years in state prison after today’s sentencing, while Valentin Aguilar Miramontes was given a four year prison term on September 18. Each of the men pled guilty to a variety of felony counts in early August after a months-long investigation dubbed Operation Freezer Burn.
