DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers and AARP ElderWatch issued a consumer advisory today warning Coloradans of a reported scam involving door-to-door salesmen selling subscriptions to the “new” Rocky Mountain News.
According to AARP ElderWatch, one of the Office of the Attorney General’s partners in fraud prevention, the door-to-door salesmen have told Colorado Springs residents they only can accept cash in exchange for a subscription.
Attorney General Announces Grand Jury Indictment Of Western Slope Motorcycle Chop-Shop Operator -- 04/23/2009
DENVER — The Colorado Attorney General’s Office announced today the Statewide Grand Jury has indicted Edward Degner (DOB: 4/28/1954) on a series of felonies for his role in a statewide motorcycle chop shop and theft scheme.
According to the indictment, Degner is suspected of committing 18 different crimes related to his operation between April 2004 and April 2007, including 14 counts of first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft.

DENVER — Attorney General John Suthers jointed state and federal officials today to urge borrowers at risk of losing their homes to use Colorado’s free Foreclosure Hotline,

“Borrowers facing default or foreclosure should act now to save their homes,” Suthers said. “Free help is only a phone call away.”
The Foreclosure Hotline is staffed with HUD approved nonprofit housing counselors who can talk with them about their mortgage. Homeowners contacting the Fore-closure Hotline stand a good chance of saving their home with little or no cost.

DENVER — The Office of the Attorney General has received a notice from Flatirons Behavioral Health Corporation, Arapahoe House, Inc., and UHS of Centennial Peaks, LLC, of a transaction in which Flatirons proposes to sell its sole asset, Centennial Peaks Hospital, a free-standing, 72-bed, acute-care psychiatric hospital, located at 2255 South 88th St. in Louisville, Colorado. The Office of the Attorney General reviewed UHS of Centennial Peaks, LLC’s move to purchase the hospital as required by state statute.

Attorney General Concerned By Provisions In The 2009 School Finance Act To Penalize School Districts That Re-Bruce -- 03/31/2009
DENVER — Attorney General John Suthers said he is troubled by provisions in the proposed 2009 School Finance Act, Senate Bill 256, that would penalize school districts that reinstate their revenue caps to keep property tax rates low.
“Now that the voters have a chance to cast an informed vote about whether they want to see their property taxes increase, the Legislature wants to punish them if they vote in favor of lower taxes,” Suthers said.
