Attorney General to address 2010 Safe Schools conference

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers will address education and public safety leaders gathered at the School Safety Resource Center’s Safe Schools Regional Training event on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Adams 12 Conference Center, 1500 E. 128th Ave., in Thornton.

“Shootings at Colorado schools, from Columbine to Tuesday’s shooting at Deer Creek Middle School, have illustrated the importance of school safety,” Suthers said. “Perhaps now more than ever it is important for education and public safety leaders to come together to share what they know and explore what needs to be done to make our schools safer for our children.”

Suthers’ remarks, scheduled to be delivered shortly after 8:30 a.m., will focus on the evolution of school safety in Colorado since Columbine and what needs to be done in the future.

The Colorado School Safety Resource Center, part of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, and Safe Communities - Safe Schools, an initiative of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado-Boulder, are hosting the conference.
