DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has obtained an indictment from the Statewide Grand Jury against three men suspected of running a $5.7 million investment-fraud scheme. Phillip R. Trujillo (DOB: 7/21/1949), David M. Piatt (DOB: 9/8/1969) and Timothy B. Burk (DOB: 1/23/1962) are suspected of defrauding 70 investors with promises that their investments in PTV 22, PTV 33 and PTV 44 would be free from risk and would generate generous returns.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to review a recent Colorado Supreme Court ruling that upheld the state’s smoking ban as it applied to onstage theater productions.
“The Colorado Supreme Court’s December decision, upholding the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act in the context of theaters, was well reasoned in upholding the law,” Suthers said. “Although the Curious Theater case would have been fascinating to argue at the U.S. Supreme Court, I am pleased that the justices have declined to hear this case.”

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Justice, has reached an agreement with AMC Entertainment Group in connection with its proposed acquisition of rival theater company Kerasotes Showplace Theatres. In order to prevent AMC Entertainment Group from having a monopoly over theater screens in the Louisville-Broomfield area and in the Arvada-Westminster area, the company will be required to divest its Kerasotes Colony Square 12 and Kerasotes Olde Town 14 theaters.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has issued an order barring the David Faith Corporation from collecting debts in Colorado. According to the order, the Denver-based company engaged in fraudulent and threatening debt collection practices, which is barred under Colorado law, and attempted to collect debts prior to obtaining a license from the state. The company’s owner, Chad Lee, also lied on the company’s application to become a licensed debt collection agency concerning his criminal history.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that attorneys from his office have reached a settlement with a small-installment lender, Security Finance, which will require the company to refund certain fees it charged consumers starting in 2004. Security Finance had 13 locations across the state, including branches in Alamosa, Colorado Springs, Cortez, Denver, Grand Junction, Pueblo and Trinidad.
