DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today a $34.25 million multistate settlement with GE Funding Capital Market Services to settle allegations that the company engaged in anticompetitive conduct in the municipal bond derivatives industry. The settlement is one component of a $70 million coordinated state and federal law enforcement and regulatory action involving the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service.

“Although I have been unsuccessful in my efforts to shield Colorado consumers from all non-emergency robocalls, I am pleased to see that Congress has decided not to subject consumers to even more automated calls through their cell phones,” Suthers said. “The death of this legislation at the hands of its sponsor is a significant victory for consumers.”

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers warned consumers today to beware of e-mails pretending to be from the Better Business Bureau. The e-mails, from riskmanager@bbb.org, might include the subject line, “complaint from your customers,” and contains a link to a Web site that includes malicious code. The Texas Attorney General’s Office warned consumers about this new scam last week.

Attorney General announces settlement barring Denver-based credit-repair company from defrauding consumers -- 11/15/2011
DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that it has reached a settlement with a Veracity Credit Consultants LLC, a Denver-based company, that bars the company from charging upfront fees in exchange for credit-repair services as well as misleading consumers about their abilities to cleanse consumers’ credit reports. Under the terms of the agreement, Veracity Credit Consultants must pay the state $400,000 in restitution, costs and fees.
