ATTORNEY GENERAL SUTHERS’ STATEMENT ON FEDERAL LAWSUIT CHALLENGING COLORADO’S RECENT GUN LEGISLATION -- 05/17/2013

DENVER—Today, various plaintiffs announced the filing of a federal lawsuit challenging the legality of gun laws enacted during the recently completed legislative session.

Attorney General John Suthers issued the following statement in response:

“In defending the lawsuit as counsel for the state, the objective of the Attorney General’s Office will be to get court rulings on the legality of various aspects of the legislation as expeditiously as possible. Colorado citizens, and law-abiding gun owners in particular, deserve such clarification.”

ATTORNEY GENERAL SECURES GUILTY PLEA AGAINST TATYANA DATKHAEVA FOR THEFT OF MEDICAID AND MEDICARE FUNDS -- 05/07/2013

DENVER — Attorney General John Suthers today announced that Tatyana Datkhaeva, M.D. (D.O.B. 11/9/48) entered pleas of guilty to one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft for submitting numerous false bills to the Colorado Medicaid program and to Medicare for which she was reimbursed.

ATTORNEY GENERAL APPOINTS JULIE ANN MEADE AS ADMINISTRATOR OF THE CONSUMER CREDIT UNIT -- 05/07/2013

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today the appointment of Julie Ann Meade to head the office’s Consumer Credit Unit. In that capacity, Ms. Meade will serve as the Administrator of the Uniform Consumer Credit Code and the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

ATTORNEY GENERAL HALTS MAGAZINE TELEMARKETING SCAM -- 05/01/2013

DENVER - Attorney General John Suthers announced today that the Office of the Attorney General has filed a civil lawsuit and obtained a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Raymond B. Jones, Jr. (D.O.B 10/21/76), Cora Jones (D.O.B. 07/26/52), and several magazine telemarketing companies that they operate. The Joneses and their companies are alleged to have charged consumers hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for magazine subscriptions that they neither wanted nor ordered.

ATTORNEY GENERAL SUTHERS STATEMENT ON DEMISE OF HB13-1114 -- 04/23/2013

DENVER—On Monday April, 22, 2013 the Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee voted 4-1 to reject the driving while under the influence of marijuana bill. HB13-1114 would have created a permissible inference that drivers with more than five nanograms of TCH per milliliter of blood were impaired.

WILLIAM PAUL BUCKLEY SENTENCED FOR AUTO THEFT -- 04/16/2013

DENVER - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that an Arapahoe County Judge sentenced William Paul Buckley (DOB: 05/10/84) to ten years of economic crime probation and 90 days in the county jail for a series of car thefts that occurred between September, 2010 and January, 2011.

ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES OTHELLO BLAND SENTENCED TO 14 -YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR ORGANIZED CRIME RELATED AUTO THEFT -- 04/12/2013

DENVER - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that Othello Bland (DOB: 06/19/1978) was sentenced to 14-years in the Colorado Department of Corrections by an Arapahoe County judge. Bland pled guilty in January to charges under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.

ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES ARREST OF MIKE TEE FOR ORCHESTRATING INSURANCE-THEFT RING -- 04/09/2013

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that the statewide Grand Jury indicted Mike Tee (D.O.B. 05/16/73) and he is now in police custody. Tee is alleged to have led a criminal enterprise that staged automobile accidents to file insurance claims and obtain financial payouts. He faces 31 felony counts that range from theft and identity theft, to violating bond and attempting to influence a public servant.

BIPARTISAN COALITION OF STATE ATTORNEYS GENERAL URGES CONGRESS TO ACT ON IMMIGRATION REFORM -- 04/09/2013

DENVER—Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that a bipartisan group of 35 state and territorial attorneys general wrote to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and congressional leaders to convey their support for federal immigration reform that improves our immigration system, keeps our communities safe and protects our borders.
