StopFraudColorado.gov Microsite Will Help Coloradans Avoid and Report Fraud

DENVER—One of the most important missions of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office is protecting Colorado consumers and businesses from dishonest advertising and unscrupulous businesses. Consumer protection issues have long been the most “clicked through” part of the office’s website. So to emphasize its consumer-protection outreach and to meet the demand for timely and credible information on scams and help victims, Attorney General John Suthers today announced the launch of a new microsite, StopFraudColorado.gov.

DENVER—Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today issued two composite reports on Colorado’s calendar year 2013 subprime consumer lending activity. The reports contain data on 250 companies at 749 licensed locations engaged in deferred deposit or “payday” loan and traditional supervised loan activity. The total volume of supervised lending overall significantly increased due in large part to increased servicing activity with a lessor increase in origination activity.

DENVER – The Colorado Attorney General’s Office today announced that Solicitor General Dan Domenico will present oral arguments on Monday before the United States Supreme Court in the Direct Marketing Association v Brohl (No. 13-1032). This is Domenico’s second appearance before the nation’s highest court. The case involves the federal jurisdictional statute, the Tax Injunction Act, and whether a challenge to Colorado's use tax collection act can be heard in federal court. 

Sirius XM Agrees to Multi-State Consumer Protection Settlement

DENVER– To resolve claims its advertising and billing practices were misleading, Sirius XM Radio, Inc. will pay eligible customers restitution under the terms of a settlement agreement announced today by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. Colorado joined with 44 other state attorney general’s offices and the District of Columbia in announcing that Sirius will also pay $3.8 million to the participating states.

DENVER – The Colorado Attorney General’s Office is announcing the successful outcome of a lawsuit brought earlier this year against Paymon’s Market, Inc. for selling “spice,” a synthetic cannabinoid. Rahmatollah Ghamari, owner of the convenience store agreed to pay $100,000 to settle the case. 

DENVER—Today the Colorado Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit that challenged the honorary Day of Prayer proclamations issued by Colorado governors as unconstitutional. In overturning the Court of Appeals ruling, the high court found that members of the organization Freedom from Religion Foundation did not have standing to bring the challenge.

DENVER–This morning United States Attorney John Walsh, Mexican Consul General Carlos J. Bello, and Colorado Attorney General John Suthers signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) that formalized a cooperative relationship to protect and promote the lawful rights of Mexican nationals in Colorado who are victims of crime, and to promote trust between the Mexican community in Colorado and all levels of law enforcement in the state.  The MOU, the first of its kind between a U.S.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced civil law enforcement actions against three additional Colorado foreclosure law firms. The firms are accused of allegedly inflating foreclosure costs charged to homeowners and others and charged with violations of the Colorado Consumer Protection Act and the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
