Attorney General joins with DEA, local law enforcement to announce statewide prescription drug take-back events

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that local law enforcement agencies across the state will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration to hold prescription drug take-back events on Saturday, October 29.

“Prescription drug abuse is one of the fastest growing problems facing Colorado today,” Suthers said. “This take-back effort and partnership between the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement across the state will help keep these potent drugs off the streets and out of the hands of youth and others to abuse.”

Attorney General announces guilty plea in unlawful sexual contact case involving former Western Slope District Attorney

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that Myrl Serra, the former District Attorney for the 7th Judicial District of Colorado, pleaded guilty in Montrose District Court to criminal extortion, a class-four felony, and unlawful sexual contact, a class-one misdemeanor. The unlawful sexual contact charge involved three victims. In pleading guilty, Serra acknowledged that sufficient evidence exists for a jury to find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.    

Colorado Natural Resource Trustees award $1.7 million to aid in the restoration of the South Platte River

DENVER — The Natural Resource Trustees of Colorado announced today that they have awarded $1.7 million in natural resource damage funds to the Greenway Foundation on behalf of the Overland Park Neighborhood Association to help restore water quality, habitat and riparian areas along a two-mile stretch of the South Platte River in south Denver.

The award of the funds will be contingent on the Greenway Foundation procuring matching funds for its projects at Grant Frontier Park, Pasquinel’s Landing and Overland Park. The projects are expected to start in roughly two years time.

Attorney General announces judgment against individual behind Florida company engaged in unregistered debt management services

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has obtained a judgment for more than $594,000 against Thomas Roland for his role in an Orlando, Fla.-based unregistered debt management company that defrauded Colorado consumers.

Tienda of eight felonies related to the release of asbestos that occurred when he hired unlicensed individuals to demolish an asbestos-contaminated Pueblo home between May 2007 and July 2007.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has issued an decision approving HCA Holdings, Inc.’s proposed acquisition of the Colorado Health Foundation’s interest in the HCA-HealthONE hospital system. The Office of the Attorney General determined that the transaction is in the public interest and that the $1.45 billion sale price is a fair market price.
