Attorney General announces order securing $125,000 in restitution from Texas-based payday lender operating in Colorado

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that attorneys from his office have reached an agreement with a Dallas, Texas-based payday lender, Payday Everyday of Colorado, to settle issues involving the company’s repeated failure to comply with state-ordered corrective actions since 2009. Under the final agency order, filed by the office’s Uniform Consumer Credit Code unit, Payday Everyday of Colorado paid the state more than $125,000 in consumer restitution.

Attorney General announces accord with Facebook, clearing legal hurdles for public entities to use the social media site

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office in conjunction with the National Association of Attorneys General and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers has worked with Facebook to modify its stated terms and conditions for state agencies. The arrangement will allow the Office of the Attorney General as well as other state agencies in Colorado to engage with the public through Facebook in accordance with the site’s terms of service agreement.

Attorney General announces $181,266 judgment against Denver man who provided fraudulent foreclosure-relief services

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that a Jefferson County District Court judge has entered a final judgment against Sherron L. Lewis, Jr., (DOB: 9/26/1956) after he failed to respond to the state’s lawsuit over his illegal foreclosure-relief activities. The judgment permanently bars Lewis from providing foreclosure-relief services and requires that he pay $181,266 to the state in restitution, fines and costs.

Attorney General announces jail sentence for Parker man responsible for contributing to airborne release of asbestos

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that an Elbert County District Court judge has sentenced Michael Merit (DOB: 8/5/1964) of Parker to 40 days in jail for his role in contributing to the release of asbestos into the air by misleading state officials and forging lab results. Merit’s sentence follows his September guilty plea to causing or contributing to a hazardous substance incident, a class-four felony.

Attorney General announces Colorado will receive $210,000 from Irish drug company to settle off-label marketing allegations

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers today announced that Colorado will receive more than $210,000 as part of a settlement with Elan Corporation to resolve allegations that Elan, through its subsidiary Elan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. improperly marketed its anti-epileptic drug Zonegran for off-label uses. Colorado’s recovery comes as part of a $101 million settlement that resolves allegations that Ireland-based Elan Corporation and its subsidiary promoted the sale and use of Zonegran, an anti-seizure medication, for uses not approved by the federal government.

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has joined a $21 million multistate settlement with Dannon to settle allegations that the food company made unsubstantiated claims concerning the health benefits of its Activia and DanActive products. Colorado will receive $425,000 under the multistate settlement.
