The Advisory Board for IHIA identified nineteen instructional goals to be covered in a five day, 40 hour course. They include: responsibilities of the homicide investigator, duties of a first responder, crime scene analysis, homicide types and offender motivation, crime scene processing, laboratory capabilities and evidence processing, role of the coroner, investigative resources and techniques, interview and interrogation, suspect development, victimology, case management, media relations, prosecution, ethics and stress management.
